NESO demands deportation of illegal migrants from NE
ITANAGAR, Aug 09: Following the spate of violence in Assam between two communities, North East Students Organization (NESO) today demanded the government to detect and deport illegal migrants from the North East (NE).
Expressing its deep concerns over the escalation of violence in Assam, NESO said that despite advance warning the Tarun Gogoi led Assam government remained as a mute spectator and failed to take preventive measures to control the situation.

CBI probe starts in Assam
PTI adds from New Delhi : A CBI inquiry into the Assam violence has been initiated and the Army put on alert, the government told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday as the opposition alleged that the region was not safe because of vote bank politics being indulged by the ruling Congress. Replying to a debate on the issue of violence in Assam that has so far claimed 74 lives, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said the government was taking the issue seriously and has already initiated a CBI inquiry to ascertain the causes behind violent incidents.
"The government is taking this issue very seriously. A CBI team has gone there and an inquiry has started....I have instructed the Army to be alert," he said.
As the opposition created an uproar expressing dissatisfaction over his reply, Shinde said, "I have instructed the Army to be on alert. What else do you want?"
He also listed the steps taken by the government to provide relief and rehabilitation, but the opposition dismissed what he said by creating uproar.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley charged the government with adopting
the policy of vote bank politics that led to the current violent incidents in the
state and alleged that the region was "not safe in its hands" if such a policy continued.
Jaitley also urged the government to have a relook at "this vote-
"If you adopt the original line of Gopinath Bordoloi (who wanted the cultural and linguistic identity of the North East) India will be safe in your hands. But if you adopt vote bank politics, I don't think this region is safe in your hands," he said.
Jaitley accused the Centre of adopting a 'clerical' approach to the problem and urged the Home Minister to reject such an approach.
"Here was a government which not only discarded the original Assam line..." but encouraged illegal infiltration enmasse in search of votebank politics, he said.
Welcoming the CBI probe into the issue, Jaitley urged the government not to treat this as a 'simple crime' and not 'miss out' on the issues as to why such incidents have taken place.
He also feared that going by 'the kind of situation that is existing in these areas, such incidents are likely to be repeated'.
"Is this is not a normal consequence of the unnatural change of the demography that has taken place in those areas?" he asked.
Reminding the Congress leadership of the policy adopted by its former leader in Assam
Gopinath Bordoloi, who wanted the cultural and linguistic identity of the North East,
particularly of Assam, to be maintained, the BJP leader charged the ruling party
with adopting a policy of vote-

East and rightly so that its identity has to be maintained...Unfortunately somewhere

DLTDC to streamline tourism projects in West Siang
Aalo, Aug 09: In its continuous effort to assess and streamline the tourism projects in various parts of West Siang district, the second review meeting of the District Level Tourism Development Committee (DLTDC) was held under the chairmanship of West Siang Deputy Commissioner Marnya Ete at Conference hall here yesterday.
Ete asked the Tourism Development Committee to take care of all major assets that benefit tourists and people of West Siang as a whole and such assets should be taken over and leased out to interested individuals/groups where necessary to earn revenue for the state. He also asked DTO Aalo to tie up with executing agencies for detail discussion on projects where works could not be taken up properly and completed in time. Land acquisition has been a problem for taking up any development activities everywhere and he stressed on proper land agreement deeds with land owners before executing any works so that complicacies do not arise in future.
Expressing his gratitude to all team members of the Tourism Development Committee, who were deputed on arduous inspection spree in various groups, the DC sought the suggestions of members present in the meet to select new proposal with tourism prospective that will benefit tourists and people of the district at large.

Monsoon active: state gets respite of deficit rainfall

PASIGHAT, Aug 9: Monsoon remained active in entire Northeastern states including
Arunachal this summer as the Bay of Bengal branch of Southwest Monsoon is heading
towards North-
Arunachal Pradesh received sufficient rainfall this year and has had a respite of the four consecutive rainfall deficit years. The Himalayan state has experienced excessive rainfall during this summer with Southwest monsoon was changing its course towards the region.
It may be recalled that soon after the onset of the monsoon in early June, Arunachal
Pradesh and parts of Assam have witnessed excess rainfall. The Indian Meteorology
Department (IMD) had a forecast of heavy rain in NE states and had a perception that
early monsoon would be active in the region and be lasted till early August, while
deficit monsoon rainfall would affect the production of various monsoon crops in

According to rainfall data available with the ‘Regional Meteorological Centre’ in Guwahati, Arunachal Pradesh recorded 28 to 30 percent deficit rainfall during the last four years. The decline in rainfall had an adverse effect on agriculture sector, which has inadequate irrigation facilities
Giving the breaks up of the deficient monsoon rainfall years, the IMD reports said that Arunachal Pradesh recorded six monsoon rainfall deficit years and five normal rainfall years between 2001 and 2011. Earlier, between 1991 and 2000, the state witnessed one deficit rainfall year, three excess rainfall years and six normal rainfall years.

Daporijo, Aug 09: A coordination meeting was held to discuss matters like temporary suspension of BRO works from Daporijo to Taksing, law and order etc at Rijo Conference Hall, here today.
Chairing the meeting, the Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner informed about the temporary suspension of BRO works from Daporijo to Taksing due to suspension of funding for the current financial and its immediate impact on some casual labourers with the discontinuation of wages from August 21. He asked the administrative officers to liase between the public and BRO and solve any problems amicably. He requested to the GREF officers to retain their regular officers and staff in the sector so that they could provide invaluable technical support during calamities and VIP visits in the district.

AdiSU reiterates demands, threatens to launch stir
ITANAGAR, Aug 9: Expressing displeasure over the government’s alleged failure to respond to it charter of demands which was submitted on Dec 22 last, Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) in an ultimatum addressed to the CM urged him to fulfill the demands within 30 days.

Pungteng Chuttlers’ championship begins at Tawang
TAWANG, Aug 09: The Pungteng Shuttlers’ championship, a district level badminton competition organized by the “Monyul’x Association for Promoting Sports” (MAPS) Tawang, kicked off at the Officers’ club here today.
Inaugurating the tournament Tawang deputy commissioner Kemo Lollen appreciated the association for coming forward to organize the event. He urged the participating teams to play the game in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
“Winning and losing is a part of game and at the end of the day one team has to win whereas the other has to lose. But what matters is participation,” said Lollen. He further urged the youth of the district to come forward and showcase their talent in such events. The young generation can gain experience from the elder players that are participating in the contest.

Incessant rain damages Govt infrastructure in Bomdila
BOMDILA, Aug 09: The incessant rain over the last few days at Bomdila has taken heavy toll on roads, dwelling houses, government residential quarters and office buildings in and around the township.
Road formation of 35 meters in between Bomdila and Pedung (New Bomdila) has been completely washed off along with its culverts and the retaining walls.
A private residence was also completely uprooted and washed away by landslide yesterday morning induced by the heavy rainfall on August 6 and 7 last. The residents were lucky enough to make it to safety in time but nothing could be salvaged.
A large number of government residential quarters, including the departmental Workshop building of DIPRO’s office have been affected by the free flowing gushing rain water. Construction of retaining walls seems to be the only way out to save the buildings as the soil of Bomdila is considered to be very loose.

Owing to the heavy downpour for the last few days, landslides of varying magnitudes have occurred within the township and in its peripheral areas creating problem for the commuters.
The District Disaster Management Authority led by Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Tashi made an elaborate survey of the affected sites yesterday morning and directed the BRTF authorities to press into service men and machineries for early clearance of the slide affected areas and the chocked drains to streamline the flow of the rain water.
In continuation to the earlier order, an executive order has been issued by the District Magistrate directing the people living in the vulnerable areas to shift to safer places in order to avoid the probable loses. DIPRO

The Parliamentary Secretary and the Chairman visited the Saw mill and allied infrastructure yesterday which were lying in a dilapidated condition since it was closed following a ban on timber operation by Supreme Court.
While assuring allocation of fund from Government for revival of the saw mill & plywood factory, Mein suggested the APFCL authority to assess the fund requirement for revival of it by engaging expert.

Monitoring Committee meeting held
ITANAGAR, Aug 9: District level Monitoring Committee meeting for various schemes under ACA, SPA, NLCPR, NEC, RIDF, MSDP, PM Package was held at Ziro today.
The meeting was attended by all the HoDs of the executing departments, ZPMs and administrative officers of the district.
On the occasion, Lower Subansiri District Deputy Commissioner Taru Talo emphasized on physical achievements in form of infrastructures and added that schemes for education and medical sectors should be completed in times and there should be no compromise in the quality of the works.
He advised the panchayat members to involve unemployed youths in the contractual works so that their zeal and energy can be garnered in the developmental process.
He however suggested that the work should be done in true spirit to enhance and speed up the development activities in the district.
HoDs presented their updated status reports under various schemes in which RWD has shown 100% completion report of all the works under its wings.

ATDSU mourns Bamin’s death, demands financial assistance
ITANAGAR, Aug 09: All Tirap District Students Union (ATDSU) has deeply mourned the tragic death of Bamin Batt, who succumbed to his injuries on August 2 that he sustained when he was hit by a speeding CRPF truck on July 29.
Batt died because his parents could not manage money for his treatment when he was struggling for his life, ATDSU claimed and condemned the CRPF authority for giving ‘false assurance’ of providing financial assistance to the victim for treatment.
The union while demanding arrest of the driver involved in the accident appealed to the authority to visit the victim’s family and compensate them suitably failing which the union cautioned to launch democratic movement.

Island of stability
Even as economic uncertainties loom over the world, Asia and Pacific will remain an island of stability, according to the United Nations Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2012. However, the region will continue to be buffeted by headwinds ranging from stormy commodity prices and receding demand for its exports, slowing its growth to 6.5 per cent from the 7.0 per cent it achieved last year.
As a consolation, the retreat would cool inflation to 4.8 per cent from 6.1 per cent.
